Alright, upon reflection Fable 2 wasn't the best game I could have gotten… it was just more entertaining than Oblivion.

Anyway, the most bitchy thing that I have to comment is the fact that no matter how much I tried I was never good enough. Seriously, I could save an entire village but end up getting evil points anyway for killing my husband and wife (played as a chick, had a family… but got tired of it). I mean, to me it seemed like a long string of quests that are designed to bring down my karma, and even though I was well prepared at the end of the game to say “Fuck it, I'm going to be rich” (as part of the final quest), I only got $1,000,000.

WHAT?

… Thats all the money in albion? I should have brought back all the people who have died instead of that damn wish, but then again they'd probably bring back 10 people! Oh, and you know the kicker? The most expensive house in the game IS $1,000,000. That was AFTER I bought up all the land I could so I'd get paid even more… but you know, everyone fucking hates me, so whats the point? I tried being good, but its fairly impossible in this game. dammit.

theres my rant… sorry, I had to get that off my chest. If I hadn't gotten Fable 2 I could have gotten Red Faction Guerilla….

I played co-op with a friend. Co-op is wicked shallow; you play a generic character while the main hero does his shit. You can't even import your own characters into the game to be player 2, which seems like a no-brainer.

Fable 2 in a nutshell:
“Hey guys, what's goin' on?”
Get shot.

“Hey guys, what's goin' on again?”
Town guards called on you.

“Hey family, what's goin' on?”
Your child's been kidnapped.

“Hey hobs, what's goin' on?”
Child saved.

“Hey badguy, what's-”

“OBEY”

“Hey dog, what's goin' on?”
Dog has joined the party.

“Hey badguy, what's-”
“OBEY”
“That's not cool badguy.”
Game over.

Yup. That is about it. Even when I spent 10 “years” in the Tattered Spire I played along but then I got no good bits out of it. I mean, for christ sakes KOTOR allowed you to do good stuff after the Dark Jedi Planet or Mannan… but noooo I just get thrown out of the tattered spire with massive bad juju and all my wifes left me! Bullshit!

Also, I had the chance to SAVE A GIRL FROM AGING by the hands of some goul “judges”. I added years onto my life. At this point the game was like:

“Oh, what?”

*noms on a sammich*

“Oh… uuuh… here” *gives 20 good karma*

…. What? reeeally? For god sakes that has got to be worth more than the low amount that you gave me! You've got to pay me back for slaughtering those innocents when I got pissed off at you game, otherwise we're going to have a problem.

*kills girl I just saved*

*30 NEGATIVE KARMA*

Oh great. Look how easy that was negated! I hate playing Fable 2. This sucks.

I'd also like to add that every battle was EXACTLY THE SAME!

“Oh, here come bad guys”

*stop*

*charge up to level 4 time stop*

*everything freezes*

*charge up to level 5 electricity*

*kill most things around me*

*rince repeat atleast 5 per 10 minutes*

uuuh…

As Yahtzee said on Zero Punctuation, you can just tape down the magic button and let it play itself overnight.

Very happy I didn't buy Fable 2. Was worth a good laugh when a friend brought it over, but it really didn't seem terribly good.

Yeah, I shouldn't have bought it.

What was I thinking? I needed a game to play, but I should have waited :/

Only reason I like Fable 2 is because being an asshole in a video game is something I rather enjoy doing.

Poor guy tried to approach me when I went into town and I instinctively threw fire into his face. After realizing I was immortal after 5 guards killed me, I found I basically still had free will.

Seriously, why make the game SO easy that you come back to life right where you die with only a scar? Geez how is it even remotely possible to lose?

Was watching a fellow play this last night. Looked like GTA + Wolverine + Hellish mutants.

Prototype is uneven. It's either stupid fun or obnoxious. The controls are really nice until you attempt anything resembling precision.

Overall I don't regret buying it – it's fun when it wants to be. It just has some elements that are fairly annoying, like the infected hunters, and the illusion of freedom. There are military bases and infected hives all over the city, and destroying one allegedly suppresses that faction. However, there's no real discernable effect, and they respawn not long after you leave the general area. Kind of makes everything you do seem really meaningless.

However, running around the city wrecking shit is just as fun as it should be. Never had this much fun running around town in a videogame.

That sounds pretty cool Batto :D

I recently bought Call of Duty 4… and wow. I've never felt that kind of atmosphere with a WAR game! I've played numerous games like Medal of Honor: Front line, Medal of Honor, Medal of Honor: Rising sun, Call of Duty 2: Big red one, and the History Channel presents the Civil war. All of which refused to tug any heartstrings or push any emotion besides “kill that nazi/jap there”. I didn't care about my AI people at all. To me they were expendable and had as much personality as a cardboard box.

At the very beginning of the History Channel game (its better to buy as a joke gift than something for yourself), I'm given instructions by my commanding officer: there's Yankee/Dixie bastards up the hill with a Gatling gun (I'm forced to watch it, the camera is locked on them), and me and my squad of 2 other jerk offs have to take that position. Literally as soon as he's finished, a cannonball (WTF?) comes and kills him and my 2 jerkoff squadmates. One pleaded “Don't forget about me…!”.

Um. Sorry, I don't know you cardboard box man.

Partially the reason why I went through so many games as of late is storyline involved. All those WWII (and civil war) games had no real storyline besides what was established already. They don't go out on a limb and have you fight nazis on a giant zeppelin or escape from an exploding Nazi HQ while riding in farmer trucks complete with pigs in the bed and chicken feathers flying everywhere. No, its usually “go here, kill things”. The games like Fable 2, Oblivion, and Red Faction end up shitting all over itself storywise and leaves me aggrivated as hell.

With COD4, it is much more varied and it has a good sense of “I know what the hell I'm doing” Unlike other shooters who haphazardly bumble about. Halo 1 was good on the “I know what I'm doing” thing, but then it shits over itself in Halo 2 and 3. Seriously, I didn't know why I was going where I was, but the game foced me along. I don't like that.

While CoD4 does have an out of the blue ending that resolves very little of the game, it was still very exciting and cunning. Not once was I ever thinking about quitting for the night, rather I kept saying “one more mission” until the very end. and I wanted more.

The endings in Fable 2 and Red Faction, while they work for what goes along with the game, the games themselves don't go out on a limb quite like COD4. They establish a path and don't stray. Its this lack of variety (while having spot on, “why am I here” coherency and controls) that doomed these other games in my eye and got me hooked on COD4.

Thanks, I needed to rant. Hope its all coherent. :P

I thought Big Red One had a pretty good story, just since you had a squad with distinct personalites. I'm not a huge fan of the squad of invincible soldiers who only die in cinematics, but I really enjoyed that game when it came out. The console Call of Duty game before that (Ironically, it was called “Finest Hour”) was absolutely dreadful. It played like a PS1 game, had AI where your own tanks ran over your own men, guns that sounded like capguns, and a non-existent story arc that had more than 1 sewer level. Big Red One was a lot more fun, and had a really good visual style to it.

I actually liked quite a few parts of World at War. However, the one part that realyl tugged at me was when I shot some random Nazi in the chest with a shotgun. He was on the ground, clutching his mangled torso, and just looked up at me with the saddest eyes I've seen in a videogame. That was a bit freaky. Overall it was a pretty competent FPS though.

Can't sing enough praise for CoD4.

Well, I never played Fable 2 because I never played Fable 1 or the lost chapters, and a good friend of mine here LOVED 1 and HATED 2.  So I'll pass.  The freeroamers with choices always get to me anyway.  There's alwasy something my OCD Paranoia pacifist goodguy nature fucks up.  Then I have to stop playing.

Remember Dead Rising?

I own it.  Haven't made it past 20 minutes.  Why?  Because one of my survivors dies and I restart right away to try and save them again.

All the survivors at the beginning of Dead Rising are scripted to die. You can't progress until they do.

A good buddy of mine also loved Fable 1 and hated Fable 2. I played it and was unimpressed. I probably detailed this in a previous post in this thread.

For $40 you can get it with Lost Planet and Devil May Cry 4. I have that little bundle, and it's a fantastic price.

Well I didn't mean all the first deaths, I knew that was unavoidable.  I mean everyone you can save, of course.

I really just want the free mode unlocked.  Too bad I will never have it.  *Do want Mega Man Mode.*

The actual free mode is shit. You need to keep finding food, as your health is constantly draining. The REAL free mode is what I accidentally did:

In the beginning, when you're stuck in the lobby, you're supposed to go up the stairs by 7pm. It's like noon, so you just need to bide your time. There's a sign in the middle of the lobby you can get on top of, and once you're there just wait. Zombies can't reach you. Once 7pm passes, you can go up the stairs and congratulations, you're free to roam about the mall. While parts of it remain locked (as they only unlock through completion of certain missions) you can still navigate through most of the mall. Then on the last day, you can catch your helicopter and be off.
I did this twice before actually tackling the story mode which, while very good, is hard to complete on time without a strategy guide. I think IGN had an excellent one that helped me through it just fine.

As for death of NPCs? I was really sad when my favorite NPC died. He was named Kendall or something – a fat black guy in a tuxedo with a shotgun. We managed to get almost the entire way back to the safe room when he got completely swarmed. I wanted to save him, but it was him or me and I was going for the “beat the game without dying” achievement. It turns out that (SPOILER ALERT!) he'll get antsy and try to kill a survivor unless you go back to calm him down, so in the end it just saved me some time.

Well, if you just hide in the bathroom and wait you're not actually doing anything.

If you want a version with no time limit, you can get the Wii version. It's shit; don't play it. In a game about a photographer using hundreds of weapons to kill thousands of zombies, there's no camera, a dozen weapons, and a couple dozen zombies. Dead Rising was one of the first games to really take advantage of the new advanced hardware it was running on, and porting it was a terrible idea.
